Happy Birthday Caleb!!!

  • You are completely drawn in by the movie, the Nightmare Before Christmas.  I still remember the first time you asked to watch it.  I told you no because I thought it might be too scary.  But you persisted until I gave in.  I told you I'd watch it with you until you were afraid and then we'd put it away until you got older.  I couldn't be more wrong.  Not only were you not afraid but you instantly fell in love.  Since that first time, we've actually watched that movie nearly every day and many days 2 or 3 times.  I think one of best moments for you in Disney was finding the store in Hollywood Studio that was all about the movie. We walked away with 2 t-shirts, the characters and the movie on DVD.
  • You love to watch the music video, RockStar by Nickleback on Daddy's i-phone.  You know lots of the words and even begun a form of "head bashing" dancing.
  • You are finally potty trained but still struggling to give up your "cork".
  • Froggy is still your absolute best friend.  You actually have two froggies - twins, we call them, but you always chose the one with the "broken" tag.  Froggy comforts you at school when you are making the transition from home or are scared.   Both froggies are showing the signs of being loved for 4 years and you need both of them to sleep with at night.  I don't dare think about what would happen if we lost either one of them.
  • You still are so skinny and really not interested much in food, unless of course, it is a "snack" or chocolate cow.  Some of your favorites are butter sandwiches or even just a spoonful of butter, marshmallows, peanut butter and jelly, chocolate chip cookie dough, toast, eggs (thankfully), spaghetti and beef stroganoff.  You like lots of fruit - pears and strawberries are your favorites.  Mealtime is still a hassle and Daddy usually has to get involved to get you to eat something nutritious.
  • You love to paint and play with play doh but you still have a pretty short attention span so anytime we set up trains or your imaginext, you lose interest before we are done with the setup.  That can be frustrating.
  • You don't really like being out in the cold.  I call you my snow princess because when Daddy was gone and we had to shovel snow everyday, you sat in the garage crying, no-  screaming, that you were cold and needed to go in the house for 45 minutes straight.  You have no interest in playing in the snow.
  • You like to go to the zoo.  You could watch alligators and crocodiles for a long time but you've adopted Nathan's love of penguins.
  • You like to read at bedtime and your favorite bedtime songs are Goodnight Sweet Caleb, Why Do Birds (Nathan's song), Twinkle Twinkle and I Had a Little Turtle Who Lived in a Box (from pre-school).
  • You changed daycare this year from Miss Joy's house to LaPetite.  I was really worried about the transition because change is hard for you but it didn't take you long to like school.  You love Miss Kristy and are learning to love Miss Karla.
  • At school, you like to play more with the girls than boys and call your 3 girl friends, your angels.  Emily, Morgan and Leni.
  • You really don't like to talk on the phone and it is rare to get more than a hi and i loves you - bye out of you.
  • You call Nathan, Budgy, always.  You really love him and he's incredibly good to you but you two have begun to have your moments of sibling bickering which usually leads to high pitched yelling and tears on your part.
  • You still are a morning person.  It is typical for you to get up daily between 5 and 5:30 and it is absolutely rare for you to sleep past 6:30.  You are usually sweet for 5 minutes when you wake up and then start bossing me around about what you want to watch on t.v., what you want to drink and what type of morning snack you'd like.  Not so much into cuddling and sitting on my lap anymore.
  • You love collections of any kind - eyeball rings, chips or play money from one of our games, markers, band-aids, you name it.  You love to find boxes and even purses to put your collections in to carry around.  For the record, the purse thing makes Daddy crazy.
  • You are really a BOY!  You love to jump or better yet, dive from piece of furniture to piece of furniture.  You love to jump off the stairs.  You will climb on virtually anything to reach whatever you want.   You like to rough wrestle with Daddy and have developed your famous Ninja move.
  • You've made me laugh harder than I ever have.  You've stretched my patience to it's breaking point.  You've made huge messes and had gigantic fits.  You've filled our hearts with love and have continued to bless our lives in immeasurable ways.

LEARNING TO BE REAL

To be yourself in a world that is constantly trying to make you something else is the greatest accomplishment. Ralph Waldo Emerson

2009 LIFE VERSE

Therefore, since we are surrounded by such a great cloud of witnesses, let us throw off everything that hinders and the sin that so easily entangles. And let us run with perseverance the race marked out for us, let us fix our eyes on Jesus, the author and perfecter of faith. For the joy set before him he endured the cross, scorning its shame, and sat down at the right hand of the throne of God. Consider him who endured such opposition from sinners, so that you will not grow weary and lose heart. Hebrews 12: 1-3
